A collaboration with the Cultural Council’s 2022 Artist Innovation Fellow Yvette Norwood-Tiger, the Council will host exclusive evenings of jazz on select Saturdays at its downtown Lake Worth Beach headquarters. Showcasing Palm Beach County-based professional jazz musicians, the series will get kicked off by Mickey Smith, Jr. (June 1), followed by Edlene Hart (June 22), T’s Express (July 20) and the Yvette Norwood Tiger Jazz Ensemble (August 17). All performances will take place at 7 p.m.

“We’re honored to collaborate with our 2022 Artist Innovation Fellow Yvette Norwood-Tiger to present the Summer Jazz Series at the Cultural Council,” said Dave Lawrence, the Cultural Council’s president and CEO. “The series will feature a fantastic lineup of Palm Beach County-based professional musicians. This is a wonderful chance to support Palm Beach County’s community of talented musicians in an intimate setting inside our historic Art Deco building.”

The performances planned for the Summer Jazz Series at the Cultural Council are as follows:

Saturday, June 1 – Summer Kickoff! Mickey Smith, Jr.

An acclaimed international speaker, educator, musician, and recipient of the 2020 Grammy Music Educator Award, Mickey Smith, Jr. hails from a forgotten community in the Bayou State of Louisiana and now stands on stages across the world encouraging educators to see. Mickey is a premiere professional saxophonist who has been performing for more than 30 years, sharing the stage with top headlining artists and musicians of various genres. His production is a concert where its mission is to remind everyone through music of their significance and that we all have a stage to shine on. Learn more at www.MickeySmithJr.com.

Saturday, June 22 – Edlene Hart

An international soul singer hailing from Yonkers, New York, Edlene is a powerful and sultry performer who will captivate an audience with her explosive stage presence. She has shared the stage and recorded with well-known recording artists including Whitney Houston, Eryka Badu, Issac Hayes, The Delphonics, Melba Moore, and has opened for the legendary Tony Bennett. She has also toured internationally, has worked as a songwriter and producer and now calls South Florida home, where she can be found performing everything from jazz, funk and pop to R&B, smooth jazz and beyond. Saturday, July 20 – T’s Express
T’s Express is a West Palm Beach-based jazz/fusion quintet that brings a collection of the finest Palm Beach County-based professional musicians together to recreate the music that jazz lovers want to enjoy. The group is led by founder Timothy Moss, a drummer who found his professional calling after meeting renowned jazz drummers Billy Cobham and Buddy Rich at a young age. Now a sought-after drummer who has toured internationally and been part of numerous bands, Tim’s band T’s Express specializes in the music of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. Every show is a moment in time, and each song is a distinctly different performance on any given night. A truly transformative experience awaits.
