A Boca Raton Museum of Art Juried Exhibition in Association with CP Group
Open only to artists living in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Photography Only.

In celebration of Boca Raton’s 100th anniversary, our juried exhibition will honor Addison Mizner and his influence on our City and Palm Beach County. Artists are invited to submit photographs that capture Mizner’s aesthetic. Addison Mizner stated that his “plan was to create a city that is direct and simple…to leave out all that is ugly, to eliminate the unnecessary, and to give Florida and the nation a resort city as perfect as study and ideals can make.”

He became Boca Raton’s City Planner and developed much of this new city. His projects include the original City Hall, now the Boca Raton History Museum; The Addison, the headquarters of the Mizner Development Corporation; homes in Old Floresta; and, of course, his “culminating achievement,” The Boca Raton Hotel and Resort. Over the course of the decades that followed, Mizner remained an important stylistic influence, notably the architecture of the Boca Raton Museum of Art and Mizner Park.

From the submissions, the selection of photographs for the exhibition will be chosen by Susan Gillis. Susan is a museum curator and local historian and has been with the Boca Raton Historical Society for 22 years. She is the author of eight books and many articles on local history including two photographic histories: Boomtime Boca, Boca Raton in the 1920s, and coauthor of Palm Beach County During World War II. She was recognized by the American Association for State and Local History with the Award of Merit for her 2004 history of Fort Lauderdale. Gillis serves as the unofficial historian of The Boca Raton, designed by Addison Mizner in 1926, and resident architectural historian and historic preservation advocate for the Historical Society. She is currently collaborating with guest curator Augustus Mayhew on a new exhibit entitled Boca Raton 1925-2025: Addison Mizner’s Legacy, opening November 13, 2024.

Juried artwork will be on view at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRiC) Marcel Breuer building, one of the most influential twentieth-century buildings in South Florida, during the exhibition.
